This Design Exploration saw the completion of a series of poster mockups created for two of William Shakespeare’s famous works: Romeo and Juliet, and Much Ado About Nothing.
Romeo and Juliet
— original designs —
The final posters were created initially in Illustrator. The poster to the left was finished in InDesign (for type placement), and the poster on the right was finished in Photoshop to connect the arteries of the heart to the title type and to make final adjustments to the background blur and type effects. Each is sized for tabloid.
I started with rough sketches of five concepts with color and placement notes, but pared this down to the three strongest options.
I created finer sketches of the three selected concepts, but then pared that down further to only two. I notated these two sketches to indicate the direction of the final designs based on feedback.
Much Ado About Nothing
— design challenge —
The challenge posed by this exercise was the design of event posters with a set amount type, in grayscale, featuring no photography, and a containing a minimal amount of illustrated graphics.
